Customize Microsoft Surface Trackpad Gestures & Reverse Two-Finger Scrolling

Microsoft’s Surface tablet has earned its fair share of interest since its inception. Although it’s the company’s first foray into the modern tablet market, Microsoft has created a device that not only looks good, but performs well too. But of all its splendid design and solid build quality, it’s the multi-input functionality that stands out the most. Along with touchscreen gestures, the slab also lets you fiddle with it via the detachable touch (or type) cover, and lets you switch between the former and latter navigation on the fly. The touch cover is a full QWERTY keyboard with an integrated trackpad (touchpad) that you’d normally see on your notebook. By default, you cannot customize any trackpad settings according to your preferences. For instance you cannot turn the trackpad off to avoid any accidental finger tapping. Luckily however, the software giant has finally released a Windows Store app for the job called Trackpad Settings. The application not only enables you to turn off the trackpad, but also lets you toggle a few more settings...

How To Set One Wallpaper For All OS X Desktop Spaces At Once

First introduced in OS X Lion, Desktop Spaces provide an excellent platform for window management. Since then, the feature has become one of the most popular additions in OS X, though it is considerably limited in some areas. It’s the closest you get to a virtual desktop available system wide, so you won’t see too many complaints. At present, each desktop space operates somewhat independent of the other. You get the same desktop icons no matter which space you’re on, but you can keep windows and apps separate. You can also, by default, make the wallpaper for each space different. This might seem useful, but a fair number of users would prefer the same background across all desktops, and that isn’t possible in two clicks or less in OS X. It lacks any way to change the background for all desktop spaces at once, which is why you might need an app or script for that. We haven’t yet found an app that does so, but a simple script does the trick fairly well. The process of creating the script is simple, but a little lengthy, so we’ll break it down as best as we can to make it easier to follow...

SportCaster For Android Gets UI Makeover, News Alerts & CBS Articles

Christmas is still nearly a couple of weeks away but early presents are already heading the way of smartphone users in the form of app updates. Here’s another one for you; OneLouder Apps – the renowned developer of many Android and iOS apps like FriendCaster, Slices For Twitter & 1Weather – has just pushed a significant update to the official Android client of their dedicated social sports news & scores app, SportCaster, which is now available in the Play Store by the name of CBS SportCaster. As its name suggests, the app now features news articles from the globally acclaimed services of CBS Sports. As far as other changes in the update are concerned, sports fans now get a completely redesigned UI that allows you to quickly jump to sections for your favorite sports teams, leagues, conferences, news, scores, standings and tweets through a dedicated sidebar as well as a dropdown menu. Furthermore, the newly added support for real-time breaking news alerts makes sure that you don’t miss out on the most happening stories of your favorite sports.
Since its release, SportCaster has constantly been praised for the variety of sports categories and content that it supports, and with this particular update (v5.0.2), the app is likely to cement its place among the top-rated sports apps in the Play Store. A dedicated news section that was previously missing from the package is also a welcome addition, especially considering that the articles are fetched from the reliable services of CBS Sports itself. In fact all the latest goodies included within the package make it even better than my personal favorite, Sports Republic.

Google Sound Search Song Recognition Widget Comes To Play Store

The official mobile clients of various cross-platform online music recognition services like Shazam and SoundHound are hugely popular for the level of ease they offer to identify and track information regarding any music you come across, be it anywhere. Inspired by the success of these tools, Google decided to incorporate one of its own within Android 4.1 Jelly Bean in the form of a neat little home screen widget. Call it a Christmas gift or Google’s decision to spread the feature to masses, the sameSound Search widget is now available in the Play Store for any device running Android 4.0 or higher. As with Shazam and SoundHound, the idea behind this widget is the same – to help users easily recognize any playing song. In addition, you can also purchase the detected songs from Google Play’s gigantic online music repository.
After you’ve installed the Sound Search widget, you may place it on your device’s home screen by navigating to the ‘Widgets’ tab within the app drawer, and then dragging the Sound Search widget to a vacant spot on your home screen. If you’re an Android 4.2 Jelly Bean or higher user, you can also place the widget on your device’s lockscreen by swiping rightwards all the way to the ‘Add Widget’ screen and then tapping the Sound Search option.

Facebook For Android Goes Native, Brings Story Bar & More

Back in August, the official Facebook app for iOS was updated with significant speed improvements and overall performance enhancements, courtesy the company’s decision to finally let go of its heavy reliance on HTML5 in order to rebuild the app using native code. As expected, this resulted in an improvement in the app’s ratings in the iTunes App Store, as more users opted for the official Facebook client instead of using one of the various third-party alternatives or the web interface. It’s been four long months since Android fans have been waiting for a similar update to head their way and today, Facebook has finally put an end to their wait. The official Facebook Android app has been updated in the Play Store with noticeable speed improvements, a brand new stories bar and better photo viewing. The most significant change in the entire update remains the use of native code for the app’s development, which makes it much snappier and way less annoying, especially while switching back and forth between various screens and features. More to follow...
While the app’s overall UI remains more or less the same as it was prior to the update, things have changed drastically in terms of functionality. The impact of the new code is evident in virtually every aspect of the app, including the (improved) loading times of notifications, photos and Timeline content, as well as the dedicated sidebar...

Extend Android Battery Life With Deep Sleep Battery Saver

On Android devices, deep sleep is a power-saving state automatically enabled after a certain period of inactivity. Basically once you lock the device or turn off the screen, the device goes into sleep mode. After a certain duration, that turns into deep sleep, which results in termination of all the low priority tasks, background apps, and unwanted processes as well as radios. The main purpose of this state is to keep your device’s various resources from being needlessly consumed, thereby extending battery power. By default, the OS governs the default delay after which the deep sleep state is activated. However, there are certain tools out there that let you take control of this particular feature, but not many surpass Root Uninstaller’s Deep Sleep Battery Saver – an option-packed Android app featuring multiple profiles to control your device’s deep sleep duration, scheduling and behavior exactly as you wish...
Each profile supported by the app is capable of controlling certain aspects of your device while it’s in deep sleep mode. Moreover, each profile takes into consideration a specific schedule time to wake your device, as well as the minimum battery level to automatically send it into sleep mode. The app’s behavior towards running apps and processes is also determined by the profile that you’ve currently activated...

Falcon Pro: Elegant Android Twitter App With An Impressive Widget

Available in the Google Play Store for free, Falcon For Twitter is one of the most feature-rich standalone Android home screen widgets for Twitter that you’ll ever come across. Apparently, the developer of the widget approached XDA member Joenrv, asking for his help to transform the widget into a full-fledged Falcon app. As it currently stands, the beta version of Falcon Pro has just been released by the developer for public testing. Having tried out the app myself, I must say that the developer deserves a pat on the back for coming up with a truly well-polished product. Although still under development, this sort-of-Holo-themed app is looking well on course to emerge as a commendable third-party Twitter app for Android. Besides the sleek looks, the app shares most of the attributes with the widget itself, including support for @mentions, Direct Messages, Favorites, Lists, Trends, native search tool, inline image previews, built-in browser, geo-tagging of tweets, TwitLonger integration to post tweets longer than the 140-character limit, customizable notifications and other basic socializing elements required to constitute a typical Twitter mobile app...

Cell Info Services: Indian Operators Turned it for VAS Promotion Except BSNL

From now on called as CB messages is designed specially to deliver messages to people particularly in a specific Geographical Area connected to a cell site to deliver on Screen Messages. SMS are sent point to point where as CB Messages are sent point to area so that Messages are directed to users in specific location.
This kind of feature is very common and has a hassle free Activation/ Deactivation with Mobiles especially with Nokia devices. Though Samsung and other Mobiles also support this feature, I noticed some Samsung devices and Motorola Devices sending CB messages in the form of sms rather than on screen Messages which is a bit irritating. Whatever, most of the mobiles supports this feature...

How To Flash TWRP Touch Recovery On Google Nexus 10

As Nexus 10 fans will know, the recently released tablet was rooted recently. Installing ClockworkMod Touch (CWMT) Recovery was part of the rooting process covered here at AddictiveTips, but CWMT isn’t really everyone’s cup of tea. The other, popular touch-based alternative to CWMT is Team Win Recovery Project (TWRP), which was developed with touch input in mind (unlike CWMT, which is essentially the standard CWM with larger input targets and touchscreen support). If you wish to install TWRP on your freshly-bought Nexus 10, follow our step-by-step guide after the jump!!!

Discover New & On-Sale Android Apps With Appzlist

Google Play Store may be getting new Android apps at a rate of knots, but there are enough alternative app discovery and exploration solutions out there to help you find exactly what you need. Just to mention a few of the previously-reviewed options in this regard, we have AndroidZoom and AppGenius, both handy alternatives to the Play Store app itself. AppDJ provides an easy way to explore the Play Store repository, whereas the likes of AppAware add a touch of social interaction to the concept. Appzlist, the latest entrant to the list of Android app discovery tools, lets you enjoy some of the best features of the aforementioned names from under one hood. Appzlist sports a sleek UI, a rich set of app filters, smart search suggestions and the ability to fetch content from user-specified categories. Send Delayed Texts via Google Voice From Your Android Phone

It’s 10pm. You just got done with your side job and want to let the customer know you’re finished. You technically closed 4 hours ago, and it’s pretty late. What do you do? You can’t call or text them, for fear you would wake or disturb them. You can’t email them because you know this customer wouldn’t check it for three days...
Enter Titan Message Scheduler.
Your goal is to send text messages on a schedule. More importantly, your goal is to send them via Google Voice. We have searched high and low for the ability to perform this via an Android device, and this method seems to be the only one available right now. It’s a growing trend to have a business number run by some sort of VOIP service, and with Google Voice still being free (for now), it makes for a great option.

SpeakMe Reads Notifications Aloud For Selected Android Apps

How often do you find yourself in a situation where you have to repeatedly reach for your Android device just to see if the last notification was about an important email you were expecting or just another promo SMS by your mobile carrier? Wouldn’t it be helpful if your device could itself read the content of the notification out loud, especially on occasions when you’re driving or too busy to be checking your device for notifications? While iOS users have been able to benefit from the likes of VSNotifications andTitleSpeak in this regard, it’s more of a surprise that there aren’t too many similar solutions available for Android users. However, SpeakMe, an absolutely free Android app, looks to turn things around, and that too, in some style. The app utilizes your preferred Text-To-Speech (TTS) engine, and puts you in control over the selection of apps for which you want it to speak notifications aloud. You can select as many apps as you like, and for each app, you have the option to specify a custom delay between the arrival of notifications and their narration. If you don’t want the content of your notifications to be revealed publicly, you can set the app to simply announce the name of the app for which the notification has been received. The app is capable of making notification announcements even in silent mode, but if you don’t wish to be disturbed, you can disable the app’s service with a mere tap...

View Local & Online Photos In One Gallery With MyPics For Android

From the makers of previously-reviewed photo editing app, FunCam, comes yet another remarkable free Android app called MyPics – the latest entrant to the list of local and online photo aggregators, including Pictarine and Pixable. MyPix by UmobiSoft Team supports integration with a number of social networks and photo hosting services, such as Facebook, Picasa, Photobucket, Flickr, VKontakte & Smugmug, and sports a built-in unified online & local photo gallery designed to cater for your basic image browsing, editing, sharing and management needs. Though not as feature-filled as some of the aforementioned names, MyPix does bring a few exclusive options to the table, like browsing Facebook Friends’ photo albums, hiding select photos from the gallery, fixing image details from EXIF metadata, multiple views for your photo albums, batch uploading & downloading of content, and the option to set an image as a contact photo or wallpaper right from within the app.
Google may has a great new stock Camera & Gallery app in Android 4.2 Jelly Bean, but the app’s inability to integrate with multiple online photo hosting services and a rather restricted set of photo editing/management features is what keeps the likes of MyPics in the hunt...

Share Android Apps, Files, Folders & Contacts Over Web & WiFi With Send Anywhere

The pace at which private file sharing services are increasing these days makes it quite perplexing for the users to pick the best one, since each service has its own specific set of goodies. Send Anywhere, a relatively new name among apps of this kind, provides a neat layout and support for multiple modes of secure wireless file sharing. The official Android client of Send Anywhere, which has just been released to the Google Play Store, allows users to remotely share whatever content they please over the web and with other Android users. The most appealing aspect of the Send Anywhere mobile app is its support for all types of file formats, and the various ways in which it allows content sharing. For instance, you may share the unique input key referring to the shared content with the recipient via SMS, email or any preferred means, generate or scan a unique QR code of the file, or share files with nearby devices over a common WiFi network...
Send Anywhere might not be the only remote file sharing solution of its kind on Android, but its rich aesthetics and the relatively extensive feature give it quite an edge over previously-reviewed EZDrop and JustBeamIt.

TasKarou Launcher: Switch Android Apps Using Stock Browser-Style Quick Controls

Developed by XDA member ne0fhyk, TasKarou Launcher is a free tablet-specific Android app launcher and task manager that draws inspiration from the stock ICS and Jelly Bean browser’s Quick controlsfeature to allow quick switching between required apps or tasks through a dedicated app drawer overlay that can be revealed by swiping in from either edge of your device’s screen. Once activated, the app lets you reveal a compact, radial control panel by tapping and holding anywhere along the left or right edge of the screen. Accessible from virtually anywhere in the OS, the panel offers you shortcuts to recently used apps, the entire app drawer, your home screen, Google Play Store, the default search app, general system settings or the app’s own configuration screen. That’s not all, the app also lets you play around with a handful of customizations, such as number of recent tasks to show in the app drawer, thickness of the transparent strip along screen edges, and selection of your favorite Android launcher with which you wish to use TasKarou...
