SIEM for One, SIEM for All

SIEM
IT security is not a luxury; it’s a necessity. While IT practitioners understand this and are on the lookout for effective security options for their network, security solutions manufacturers tend to serve the enterprise market and large companies more than they do smaller organizations and resource-constrained security teams. The reality is that 99% of IT security departments are resource-constrained in terms of budget, time, and staff...

Hashtagger: Search Hashtags On Facebook, Twitter & Google Plus

Twitter is what made hashtags matter and as far as finding any relevant, consolidated information on an event is concerned, Twitter is still in the lead. Of course, following the success of hashtags and subsequently of Twitter Trends, Facebook and Google Plus decided they were worth having around. We can’t say that hashtags have been just as successful on these two networks but people do use them. Hashtagger is an Android app that lets you search hashtags on the three major social networks; Twitter, Facebook, and Google Plus. ContactBox: Privately Share Contacts Between Android And iOS Devices

Smartphones have become smarter over the years. What was once a clunky little device we kept in our pockets to make phone calls has turned into a multi purpose machine which lets us play games, stream HD videos, and listen to music on the go. But what hasn’t changed that much about smartphones is the way we manage our contacts. Sure, you can now sync your entire address book with Google or iCloud, but when it comes to sharing them with others, the default solutions still leave us wanting more.ContactBox is a new app for Android and iOS that tackles this issue by letting users create custom contact lists and privately send them to their friends via text or email...

Slingshot Has Been Released & It Demands Your Phone Number

Facebook’s new Slingshot app is now available in the App Store and the Google Play Store for iOS and Android, respectively. The app, for now, seems to have been made available to users in the United States only so if you live elsewhere, you’re in for a slightly longer wait. Before we get down to our review of the app, we’re going to talk a little about privacy and what using Slingshot means. The app itself is indeed the Snapchat competitor eveeryone thought it would be and with a large company like Facebook behind it, the design is well up to par...

Write Notes And Sync Them To Dropbox Or Google Drive [Android]

I think I can say with absolute certainty that there are many different ways to keep notes on Android. Google Keep, for instance, is a really nice app if you’re quickly jotting things down. And it syncs well with your Google Account too. Evernote provides the best note taking experience across platforms. But not everyone wants to play with loads of features that Evernote throws at you, and some people prefer simplicity over complexity when it comes to creating and saving notes. If you’ve been looking for a way to write notes on your Android device that sync with your Dropbox or Google Drive, then Sync Notes is might be the right tool for you. Although it has a pretty simple interface, it gets you to what you want fast...

Copy Bubble: A Floating Clipboard Manager That Saves Multiple Snippets [Android]

For PC users, the clipboard feature is as natural as anything else. It allows users to easily copy and paste text, files, folders, and more. Luckily for Android users, the copy & paste functionality has always been there too but akin to the default clipboard feature of desktop, the clipboard of Android can store only one item at a time. Copy Bubble is a new nifty little application that improves the default single-purpose clipboard in Android by allowing you to save multiple text snippets to it and use them any time you want. But since there are many similar apps we’ve seen before, Copy Bubble makes itself stand out from the crowd by presenting everything in a floating window giving you access to clipboard items on the fly by tapping an always-accessible hovering bubble...

Floata: Add A Floating Button To Your Screen To Tweet From Any App

I’m no Twitter junkie, but I’m absurdly picky when it comes to mobile apps that are created for it. Since the humble beginnings of Android, I’ve seen plenty of 3rd party Twitter clients making their way to the Google Play Store. That probably means that the competition is tough for new developers to bring something fresh to the table which can enhance your Twitter usage besides offering something unique. Floata is just that app which I found particularly helpful if you need to tweet something quickly whenever, wherever you want. Because, unlike traditional Twitter applications, Floata can float over other apps, allowing you to access it by simply tapping on its miniscule icon...

New Features In Firefox 30 For Desktop & Android

Firefox 30 is out and you can upgrade now from the help menu. Since it’s the first update after the new Customize options were introduced in Firefox 29, you might need to search for the upgrade option. Click the options button at the top right, and you will see a help button next to the large Customize button at the bottom. Click it to reveal a new pane of help options which include the About Firefox option. The new update is mostly fixes and many new developer options. In this new update, plugins are disabled by default except those that have been whitelisted or that are installed when you install an add-on. A new button has also been added for toggling the visibility of the bookmarks and history side bar. With the new desktop version, a new mobile version has also been introduced and it offers more for end users. You can add your favotire share functions to the context menu just by tapping it, and you can subscribe to RSS feeds from any web page and read them on your home page with the aid of a new add-on called Home Feed...

How To Add & Read RSS Feeds In The New Firefox For Android

Firefox 30 for both desktop and Android is out and one of the new features in the Android variant is a way to read RSS feeds from your home page. It’s the perfect way to turn Firefox on your Android device into a fairly basic feed reader. The feature is tied to an add-on called Home Feeds which has been developed by a Mozilla developer but does not carry the company name for some odd reason. In addition to allowing you to read a feed from your home page, it also makes it super easy to add that feed to the page. Being basic, it does not have any buttons for marking an item as read or unread. You get the twelve most recent items in the feed...

Prism Is An App Focused Launcher Geared Towards Simplicity [Android]

A great user interface is one of the most important factors of whether to download an app or not, but it shouldn’t have to be the only one. When it comes to application launchers for Android, the opinions between design and simplicity will greatly vary among users. Some people fancy loads of customization options and gorgeous UI but others simply want a launcher app that works and provides quick access to the installed apps and important Android settings. There’s really no shortage of app launchers on the Google Play Store, but Prism Launcher is purportedly geared towards users who need a bare bones launcher replacement. The app is still in early BETA so don’t expect too many features out of the box...

Gecko Dialer: Access Dialpad And Google Search In Floating Window [Android]

We all know that Android can easily handle two different tasks simultaneously. But Google’s open source OS doesn’t offer true multitasking a la Windows or Mac OS X. Even though manufacturers like Samsung have already tried to fill this gap with their Mult-Window feature found on the company’s top end Galaxy phones and tablets, other OEMs are yet to bring similar functionality to the table. Recently though, floating apps are becoming the de facto standard for performing multiple tasks at the same time, because these apps enable users to access certain tasks within another application  (Facebook Messenger, anyone?). Gecko Dialer is one such handy tool that lets you access the dialler interface in a floating window, enabling you to easily input long numbers and extensions inside another app...

The really interesting bit is that instead of a select few stories, you can listen to literally any news you want and curate news playlists of your topics that interest you, as well as select custom news sources and sections...

Impressive iOS Calendar App Sunrise Comes To Android

Most calendar apps on Android have two major issues: they’re plain ugly, and they are not so user-friendly. Sure Google Calendar is a straightforward solution, but when it comes to third-party alternatives nothing beats the enormous options on iOS. One such fantastic calendar app Sunrise Calendar for Apple devices has now made its way to Android. And it looks exquisite, to say the least. As much as I thoroughly enjoyed using it on my friend’s iPhone, I’m loving it on my humble Android daily driver. Tweet Balloon Lets You View Timelines As An Overlay On Your Homescreen

Twitter apps in the Google Play Store are plenty, some are truly amazing and others not so much. If you aren’t using the official Twitter app, you have a huge selection of unofficial ones to choose from. Tweet Balloon is a Twitter app available in the Google Play Store. Like any Twitter app, it lets you read your tweets, view your mentions, direct messages, pretty much standard stuff. What sets it apart is the little balloon widget that comes with it. The balloon widget works a lot like Facebook chat heads and that’s exactly what the balloon resembles (except that it’s a balloon). This balloon is why you would want the app; it snaps to the edge of your screen and when you tap it, it brings up your timeline as an overlay on your phone’s home screen. You can snap the balloon back to a side of your screen to dismiss it...

Every new smartphone owner ends up in frustration when their device doesn’t last a whole day on a single charge, or when they face various memory issues owning to a ton of background apps and running services. But this multitasking comes at the cost of memory lag when a boatload of apps are left running in the background. Frequency: App Usage Tracking (or Frequency for short), is an Android application that lets you monitor app usage, and in turn remove those that you don’t often use, allowing you to uninstall them right away from the app itself...
